So, my sister has a book review blog and I thought I could create a blog of my own doing what I love to do - share my opinions on music that I've recently discovered and enjoy, as well as newly discovered music that I think is absolute garbage. My main focus will be albums - particularly in the rock/indie rock/folk rock/alternative rock genres. I tend to steer away from the 'hit single' and spend my time attempting to delve deeper into a band's psyche by absorbing the entire album. Oddly enough, my favorite songs on an album are generally not the hit singles. Being a singer/songwriter myself, I've trained my ears to listen for certain things that most people might not think of. The musical experiences I've had thus far in my relatively young life have led me to this point. Welcome to my blog.
First off, the sole purpose of me creating this blog is musical awareness. While I'm certainly not a professional musician, I've been blessed with discerning ears and good taste. My goal is twofold: A) to open minds (mine included) to new and unique bands and B) to expose the many extremely untalented bands/artists out there in an effort to bring mainstream brainwashing to an end. Needless to say, it will be a lifelong pursuit - and I need your help.
As a teenager, I listened to your typical main stream rock groups - Linkin Park, Incubus, Staind, etc. Outside listening to the local rock station where I grew up in Texas, I knew of no real way of accessing new music. My friends were in the same boat, which unfortunately led to rather short conversations. At the time, this didn't bother me. In fact, I had no idea that I was missing out on so much. However, as my guitar skills improved and my tastes in music became more refined, I desired more than what the radio had to offer.
Although I have since broadened my musical spectrum, I am very aware that there exists terabyte after terabyte of superb music yet to be heard by my ears. However, therein lies the reason behind the blog. To all my fellow music seekers - good luck and Godspeed.
